Biggest Loser is back with a couple’s edition, to ask if two people who have gotten fat together can lose the weight together. Each pair is their own team, Black, Blue, Pink, Purple, Orange, 10 in all, and they will win or lose based on their joint effort.
Mother and Daughter Bette Sue and Ali, from Mesa AZ, are both hairdressers who were once nationally ranked swimmers.
Mallory and Curtis have three children. Curtis has worked hard to provide for his family, but he doesn’t qualify for health insurance, until he loses 150 pounds.
Jenn and Maggie are best friends who, ironically, work at a fat camp.
Neill and Amanda are leaving behind their toddler but decided it was time well spent.
Paul and Kelly ex husband and wife, divorced after getting fat together. They still care about one another but they’ve got to overcome their past before they can move forward.
Lynn and Jenni, father and daughter who want to get closer and make each other proud.
Jackie and Dan, Mom feels guilty about her son’s obesity.
Brothers Jay and Mark have been successful in life, with the exception of their weight.
Football team mates, Trent and Roger, who have been through hell in the past, leaving it all on the field, and are ready to go thru hell together again.
One team was selected fro the Biggest Loser online club and they have never met before. Bernie and Brittany.
Before anyone can get too comfortable, contestants receive their first challenge, racing for the trainer of their choice. The teams have to run across several hills and back again then line up behind their chosen trainer: each trainer can only train 5 teams.
Whaaa, all the teams ran to Jillian because they know she’s a drill sergeant.
The pairs lined up as follows:
Team Jillian
1 - Jay and Mark
3 - Trent and Roger
4 - Curtis and Mallory
6 - Neill and Amanda
7 - Jenn and Maggie
Team Bob
2 - Bernie and Brittany
5 - Jackie and Dan
8- Lynn and Jenni
9 - Paul and Kelly
10 - Bette Sue and Ali
Then it’s time for the first weigh in. Dundundun..Cue music and reveal double scale. Only the total team weight loss will matter when it comes to elimination time.
Maggie and Jen are up first. Jenn starts at 254, while Maggie is 239 - Total 493 lbs
Jay starts at 293, Mark at 285, combined total 578
Curtis starts at 381, Mallory at 217, combined total 598
Bette Sue is 261, Ali 234, total 495
Jackie 246, Dan 310, Total 556
Lynn 409, Jenni 267, the second highest combined total 676
Bernie 283, Brittany 221, total 504
Neill 317, Amanda 204, total 521
Paul 303 and Kelly 271, combined total of 574. Kelly bursts into tears when she sees she is the heaviest girl in the house.
And saving the biggest for last, Roger 363 and Trent 436, 799 pounds between the two of them, they’re the heaviest pair. Trent is also the heaviest individual player.
Jillian is not happy with the pairs, because they’ve brought their enablers with them. That makes the job even harder. Amanda stands out as a fighter, while hubby Neill is about to get knocked out by Jillian. Neill yearns for the softer side of Bob. Jillian says the idea that Bob is all warm and fuzzy is a lie, he’s a MONSTER. Maybe, but he’s a good looking Monster.
Paul passed out from the work out. Bette Sue thought she wanted Jillian, but girlfriend had no idea what she was asking for. She had to “settle” for Bob and he absolutely kicked her butt. And then he gave her a pep talk.
Then it’s a cold slap of reality in the face when the contestants are taken to the morgue to see where they’re going to end up sooner rather than later. The news doesn’t get better from their. They learn about fertility issues, heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea and all the other complications related to obesity.
On the lighter side, the challenge requires teams run a lap with an enormous balloon. The first to finish gets to remove 2 lbs at the weigh in, but the last place team has to add 2 lbs.
Back in the gym, Jenni is unhappy with her dad, because he’s not working out as much as she would like. She tracked him down in the kitchen, wanting 30 minutes of gym time but he refused because he “had no wheels” with blisters on both feet. He makes up it during the last chance workout.
Bernie was kept in the hospital for tests because he’s been puking during the workouts and getting dehydrated.
Players are informed that immediately following the weigh in, there will be an elimination vote.
Paul lost 17 lbs and Kelly lost 13, combined total of 30 lbs. I think Kelly probably cried out a few of the pounds after Paul’s barb.
Jay lost 13 and Mark lost 17, 30 lbs total but they received a bonus 2 lbs, so it was a total of 32 lbs.
Curtis lost 22 lbs and Mallory lost 14. Unbelievable! Combined total of 36 lbs.
Roger lost 20 lbs and Trent lost 29 lbs, for a total of 49 lbs.
Jackie lost 15 lbs and Dan lost 25, total of 40 lbs. Just before their weigh in, Jackie was crying because she didn’t think they could match the big numbers being posted, and then they had the highest percentage of weight lose.
Lynn lost 19 lbs and Jenni lost 7 lbs for total of 26 lbs.
Neill lost 13 lbs and Amanda lost 17 lbs, total 30 lbs.
Maggie lost 10 and Jen lost 12 lbs, for a total of 22 lbs, but they lost the challenge, so they only get credit for 20 lbs.
Ali freaked out over the big numbers too. Unlike Jackie, her team didn’t jump to first place.
Bette Sue lost 16 lbs and Ali lost 19 for a total of 35 lbs. The y moved into second place.
Bernie lost 17 lbs and Brittany lost 10 lbs, for a total of 27 lbs.
Lynn and Jenni and Maggie and Jenn are below the yellow line, one team from each trainer. Whew!
Lynn is ready to throw in the towel, telling the house “Do what you want, it doesn’t matter to me. ” Jenni knows that when they get back home, her dad will just go back to his old dog tricks. His ambivalence sealed their fate and they were eliminated from the competition. Lynn said he would keep it up at home and it looks like they’re both trying, but neither has had extraordinary results.
Jenni lost 20 lbs in 6 wks and Lynn lost 30 lbs.
