2. Shrek
Forget everything you thought you knew about fairy tales - the handsome prince saving damsel in distress while fighting fire breathing dragons and frightful green monsters. Shrek turns it all around and delivers a fresh and funny view into the magical world of make believe. Every fairy tale is fair game.
Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) is the height challenged ruler of Duloc and he is bent on ridding his perfect kingdom of all magical creatures, including talking donkeys (Eddie Murphy), puppets that think they’re real boys, blind mice and wolves dressed as grandmothers. With no where left to go the creatures seek shelter in the swamp, Shrek’s (Mike Myers) swamp to be exact and he’s more of a lone orge than a people person.
Shrek works out a deal to get rid of the pesky guests: rescue Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) for Lord Farquaad and receive the deed to the swamp.
The result is a family friendly farce. Especially if you like fart jokes. There are dozens of pop references, an upbeat sound track and if plenty of feel good moments.
