4. Office Space
If you have ever worked in cubical hell, then you will laugh manically at the pain and suffering of others who endure the mind numbing monotony of corporate America until they crack. It’s just good clean fun.
“Human beings were not meant to sit in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day, filling out useless forms and listening to eight different bosses drone on about mission statements.”
Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston) is on the bring of sanity, thanks in part to his shallow boss, Bill Lumbergh (Gary Cole) and oddball coworkers, including Milton (Stephen Root), the squirrelly misfit who mumbles his way through the day.
Peter has a self awakening and breaks free of his corporate cage, refusing to conform to the company’s political demands. He refuses to work overtime, knocks down his cubicle walls, comes and goes as he pleases, all with surprising results.
When Peter ceases to suck up he’s seen as a sharp shooter with management potential.
This film is funny precisely because of its accuracy in depicting middle class workers who endure smog filled morning commutes to work for heartless corporations reporting to mindless management to pay for the next new car or vacation to Disneyland.
