The Amazing Race started in Los Angeles and the first destination is Salvador, Brazil.

There are 11 pit stops along the way, 8 of which are elimination legs of the journey. The first team to cross the finish line on the eleventh leg will win $1,000,000.

Nick and Starr took an early lead racing to the airport, but Aja and Ty took advantage of the carpool lane and arrived at the airport first. They failed to find the flag to check in and the best buddies, Bill and Mark, beat them to it.

The teams get acquainted in line and there is already bad karma. Andrew and Dan, the frat boys from Phoenix, pray for a delay of the first flight. It worked but their flight was still an hour and half behind.

Nick and Starr approached parental pair Ken and Tina about a loose alliance. Ken and Tina are separated couple with miles of betrayal between them.

Mark and Bill have an advantage of geek genius, so when they face the first roadblock, to become a street barista and deliver a cart of candies, they quickly cover it with a coat to keep the candies on board.

Terence and Sarah delivered the goods first and got a clue to go to a nearby military base. When the teams arrive they sign in for varying departure times the next morning. The first teams to leave will be Terence and Sarah, Mark and Bill, Nick and Starr and Ken and Tina.

The first group leaves at 9:00 am to Pelourihno to find a church and their next clue. The next group, Andrew and Dan, Aja and Ty, Kelly and Crystal leave at 9:30 and the remaining teams are close behind, leaving at 9:45.

Terence and Sarah had a nice little lead, but missed the flag to the Detour clue.

Teams must chose either “Hard Way Up” or “Soft Way Down”.

Hard way up requires players climb stairs on their hands and knees.

Soft way down requires teams climb down 250 feet on the outside of a building hanging onto a cargo net. Only three teams can be on the net at a time.

Nick and Starr were the first team to climb down. Ken and Tina were next then Mark and Bill. Terence and Sarah missed the clue (again) so they were the fourth team to descend but they passed Mark and Bill on the way down.

Only Andrew and Dan selected the hard way up but they didn’t know how many steps they climbed so they had to go again. In the meantime, the other teams made like Spider man and swung from the net.

Nick and Starr were the first team to arrive at the pit stop. Anita and Arthur were last. I’m sure they would have been interesting to get to know, but they were eliminated.
