Our Story: From Invention to Building a Movement
Dissatisfied with existing cold therapy methods, our founder, Wyatt, innovated the Ice Barrel in his garage in 2017-2018. He designed the Ice Barrel to be not just a tool for cold therapy but a symbol of our commitment to wellness, recovery and a vibrant life. The Ice Barrel is a testament to our dedication to helping people live their best lives through the power of cold therapy.
Wyatt discovered cold therapy during a challenging time in his life. Stressed out, burnt out and depressed, he found solace in the transformative power of cold exposure. This life-changing experience ignited a passion in him to share the benefits of cold therapy with others.
Since that original wooden barrel design, we’ve listened to customers, studied the marketplace, and innovated even more effective and accessible cold therapy solutions toward our mission of helping people get colder and feel better.
Design and Innovation
Our team of industrial designers and engineers have spent years identifying and solving many challenges associated with cold therapy. As a result, we proudly design every product from the ground up with you in mind—helping to support an active cold therapy routine.
We take pride in the fact that our Ice Barrels are made in the USA using a very involved process to get the edges smooth and to make the barrels extremely durable. Our barrels are made from high-quality recycled materials that will last a lifetime. Composed primarily of LLDPE (low linear density polyethylene); a lightweight and durable non-toxic, BPA-free plastic. The same type of plastic used in food and medical grade applications. We also use a UV-resistant formula to help minimize fading. The barrels are made using advanced technology that allows us to produce a consistent and high-quality product that our customers love. Through this technology, we are able to produce highly durable, thick-walled barrels. This means that you don’t have to worry about your Ice Barrel failing or breaking down over time.
The Upright Position
All our barrels feature an upright design, made for the human body to fully submerge up to the neck for maximum benefit. This creates a much different experience than the traditional stock tank or bathtub style cold plunge. The idea from the beginning was, how do we support the body's natural position when it's in the fight-or-flight response? We've designed our products to feel similar to the effect you get from jumping into a river or lake.

So the first thought was, I've gotta get this practice out of a bathtub and into the position you get in when you get into a cold lake, or a river. How do we recreate that experience?"

Water maintenance is a breeze thanks to our patented Stabilize formula. We recommend our Maintenance Kit, which provides everything you need to keep your ice bath clean and enjoyable.
