Q&A with Mobility Coach John Lindsey
John Lindsey is a movement coach and cold therapy enthusiast dedicated to enhancing his own capabilities and sharing what he learns with the world.
He transformed his perspective on physical fitness through consistent mobility work. John now shares his knowledge and experience with others, emphasizing the importance of daily mobility and honing body-mind connection to achieve improved movement and physical well-being.
Tell us about your first ice bath! How did you get started with cold therapy?
My first ice bath was 6-ish years ago. I had been taking cold showers for a year and wanted to step it up, so I filled my bathtub up with ice and jumped in. I wasn’t prepared, the water was legit blue, and it was freaking cold!
What’s your current cold therapy routine?
Typically 5 minutes of cold, 2-4 times a week with sauna use, too. After the sauna, I’ll sit in the Ice Barrel for 90 seconds, as well.
What are you thinking about while you’re in the ice bath?
It’s different every time, but I would say in general my mind drifts away from daily stressors towards my goals both physical and professional.
What’s something that helps you stay motivated?
Fear of failing — If I’m going to start anything, regardless if it’s professional or physical, I’m going to be all in. Wanting to live up to my own expectations and avoid failing to get to that goal keeps me motivated!
Something that keeps you grounded?
Just knowing progress takes time. Rarely in life is there a true shortcut to success. Staying humble, regardless of how big of a win you have keeps you motivated to reach the next steps in the journey to success.
Part of your routine that you’ll never skip?
Morning Movement. My day is completely off if I don’t get up and get some kind of movement in before the real work begins.
A goal you’re working toward?
Becoming a more knowledgeable cyclist. I’ve been riding for about 18 months now and, like physical practices, in the past I’m diving all in to learn more about it all: proper training, technique, nutrition, etc.
What are some of your favorite products for self-care and/or recovery?
Ice Barrel and Sisu Sauna are the top of the list, but I also utilize red light and the Theragun in the evenings to really decompress.
